Thad, middle brother to Hank and Elvin, would have been 83 years old today. He was a brilliant arranger and band leader, better known for his dynamic conducting, harmonic constructions, section writing, and on-the-spot head arrangements than for his horn playing. But he playing was beautiful too. I mention Thad from time to time on this blog &#8212; <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.devradowrite.com\/?p=20\"target=\"_blank\">A Week of Monday Nights<\/a> <\/strong>last May, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.devradowrite.com\/?p=163\"target=\"_blank\">Once Upon A Monday Night<\/a><\/strong> last October, and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.devradowrite.com\/?p=279\"target=\"_blank\">just last week<\/a><\/strong> I  mentioned seeing Ralph Gleason\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Jazz Casual\u00e2\u20ac\u009d tv episode featuring the band in the late 1960s. I guess I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d better order the<strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/ejazzlines.com\/store.cfm?do=search&#038;search=jazz%20casual&#038;searchfields=p%2EProdName%2Cp%2EFlex1&#038;d=0&#038;m=0\"target=\"_blank\">Jazz Casual DVDs<\/a><\/strong> while supplies last.<\/p>\n<p> I am so glad that my husband gifted me this boxed CD set when it came out a dozen years ago; being a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153limited edition\u00e2\u20ac\u009d it is no longer available. The brightness and bounce of Little Pixie seems particularly uplifting on this chilly, rainy day in usually sunny California.
